Our performance audits are independent of government, allowing them to be looked at as an objective and reliable assessment of whether public sector organizations, or their programs and services, are achieving the objectives they set out to do in an economical, efficient, and effective way.
Public sector organizations include government ministries, school districts, health authorities, and Crown corporations.
At the Office of the Auditor General of B.C., our audits do not question the merits of government policies. The focus of our work is to examine management practices, controls, and the reporting systems in place based on its own public administration policies and on best practices.
Performance audits span a variety of topics and sectors such as:
- transportation
- healthcare
- finance
- education
- environment
- governance
- information technology
Our performance audits are conducted in accordance with the assurance standards of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA), and like financial audits, are an important part of open and accountable government.
