The Legislative Assembly appoints small groups of MLAs to 10 permanent committees that examine policy and other matters. The committees are required to report back to the assembly on their work and findings.

The auditor general regularly meets to discuss our reports with two parliamentary committees: Finance and Government Services, and Public Accounts.

The process enables public scrutiny of financial reporting and the economy, effectiveness and efficiency of government organizations.

Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services considers and makes recommendations based on the Office of the Auditor General’s annual reports, three-year service plans, and budget submissions.

Normally, the committee meets with the auditor general each autumn to review budget proposals. They meet in the spring to receive financial and operational updates.

Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts

The Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts reviews and considers the Office of the Auditor General’s financial and performance audits, the annual three-year plan for financial statement audits, and information reports.

The committee may follow-up with audited organizations on their progress in implementing our recommendations, contributing to greater accountability and administrative improvement in the public sector.
